History of Farm Žurej
Barley – the name that the Žurej farm has been carrying for decades comes from the castle jail.
Legend has it that there was an underground tunnel from Žusemski grad to the farm where the castle jails were held, one of these jails is part of the economic building and serves as a very cold basement area. Farm with tradition – the Žurej family has been the master of the farm for generations.
The door of the commercial building along the road is adorned with an image of a horse, but few know that the line just under his roof remained from the time when the castle post office was in it – they were dropping pigeons from them. There’s a larger house across the street, and behind it a jailhouse that was once used by the Countess. All of this consisted of the annex of the Zhusian Castle, which bears the historical name of The Barley.
The farm was once the addition of the Castle Žusem, or as the master joked, the craft zone of the castle. The castle was on a rock where there wasn’t much space, there was only a small house under the castle, chickens, some cows, a couple of horses. Everything else was on Baroque, where the mansion had large stables with livestock, cows, a few elections, horses, and the flag had its own mill and dungeon. There was also a castle barn and a post-mail building. The barley represented the economic power of the county, as it had no such flags on the other side, but it had many vineyards. Because the castle was one of those that was in the chain of the eastern border of the defence of the German Empire – it was in military office with military crews, knights, horses and peshawar, which were mobilised if necessary. The mobilization center was just Barley’s.
Even later, the farm was an important stop on a very busy road, people from these areas and from croatian Zagorje, Obsotelj, walked to Grobelne on the train, in Loka was an important and successful glassworks. From Loka pri Žusmu, these places are separated by a heavy hill, The Wolf Cave, which was once much worse. At Barley, where there was a barn, they had horses ready to be stabbed and put the wagons on the other side.
